Internet Scams

Posted by Castel on May 7, 2008

Once again I feel the need to let people know how dangerous it is to accept ANYTHING over the internet. I am a fan of Criagslist, but there has to be some common sense in all of this. I was listening to my radio as I sat at my desk and protected the free world.
If you have not heard anything about this I suggest that you go to the link at the bottom of this blog and read up.  For al l  3 of my readers I am going to have to say, DO NOT DATE ON THE INTERNET. Apparently what happened was this man put a posting on CL and when the women showed up, he raped them. They finally caught this pig, and when they did they found out that he has AIDS.
SO. . . Now the question is, how many people have this disease because of this guy? Women have a better chance of getting it than men do, and only 2 reported that they were raped. How many have not reported it? Have the victims had any relations to anyone else since contraction?
Most people would say “No,” because they were just raped. However it is common for the victim, whether it is a man or woman, will go and “re-instate,” their control over their sexual life. That means they go out and have sex.
This man is being charged with “Sexual Assualt,” which is legalese for Rape, as well as “Reckless Conduct,” which is a law that was instated just for this reason.
The ultimate question is, does this man get the death penalty? He has willingly killed two women with a disease, as well as violated them in the most personal way.

Okay, let me switch soap boxes, back to the internet scams that happen. I am surprised at how many calls I am getting from friends and family about how someone just offered them a job by email. They are told that if they “transfer,” money from a Cashier’s Check, Money Order, Traveller’s Check, or Personal Check to a wired account.
First of all, no matter how you are getting this money, it is illegal. It is called “money laundering.” I have never heard of anyone ever getting the money out of this. The checks are fake. ALL OF THEM. So in the end you become responsible, your bank is going to want to get their money back, and they will go to court to get it. I talked to a woman in Denver who actually went to jail because she refused to pay the bank back.>

Second, and most importantly. No one is going to pay you to handle their money. It sounds so good, and times are hard, but no one is just going to give away money for free.  Now I can hear some of you saying that it is not free, you have to cash the checks and then wire them. Ok, so you spend 30 minutes driving around to get a 5000 dollar cut from 100,000 dollars worth of checks?
If I was to show up at your door and say, “Hi Bill, I have these checks that I need cashed. I can’t do it, there are too many taxes and I wouldn’t get all of my money. Will you cash it? I will give you 5 % for your trouble. Here are the checks, call me when you are done and I will pick up the remaining 95,000 dollars.”  -  You would call the cops and probably beat the crap out of me for trying to scam you. So why are you doing it over the email.

If you happen to get these emails and you think one might be legit, call your local FBI office, they will quickly let you know that you need medication for your problem.
